Zihuatanejo Day........Something or other.

Tonight, my friend Kirk Ingertila , his wife Pam and his awesome mom arrived. We went to a locals only place called La Sanka Grill, where we met Jimmy and Josie; two renowned ex-pat musicians.

After our return from LGBC, we went back to the Mercado Tourista and one of our favorite places is Bandito's. Here we had the best live music with a couple of local musicians.

LGBC Navy boat? :-)

This is Las Gatas Beach CLub. Owned by Owen Lee, a retired U.S. veteran and surfer. He created LGBC in 1968. Not much remains of the beach club, but you can feel the presence of the history as you walk the LGBC grounds.

Today, we took a trip to Las Gatas Beach. It is located on the south end of Bahia de Zihuatanejo. We took a Panga boat (water taxi) there for $140 pesos.

Picante' Cruise

This evening's cruise on Picante'!

Zihuatanejo Day 5 - Playa La Ropa

Today, we hung out at Playa La Ropa. Here is a video (sans sound) of what it looks like.
Playa La Ropa is located a few blocks down from our condo. We had some pretty good waves from the wake of Andres.

Day 4...

This picture was taken about 7:00 PM on Monday night. THe waves crashing up on the north side of Zihua bay.
Lucia wearing the required lunch Sombrero :-)

Monday, June 22nd - We are expecting Tropical Storm Andres to arrive anytime today, so we think we are going to venture in to Ixtapa before it does. As soon as we arrived in Ixtapa, boom! it hit! Wind gusts up to 50-70 miles per hour, huge waves and then, the rain - sheets, buckets, but the most awesome thing was? It was still 85 degrees ahhhhhh........ We took refuge in the Heaven and Hell cantina and dried off a bit. Had a great lunch and went back to the condo to ride the storm out.....

Sunday in Zihuatanejo - Day 3

It then escalated into an incredible lightning show. This photograph courtesy of Peter Carey.

Sunday evening, we got a small tropical rain that came in after 5:00 PM.

After walking Playa Madera, we headed up the steps to Hotel Las Brisas to catch a cab back to Que Ve Al Mar for some cooling off in the pool

After lunch, we headed up Play Principal to Playa Madera. HOT HOT HOT!! 95 degrees and 100% humidity

We had lunch at the Sirena Gorda (Fat Mermaid) today and were serenaded by these two talented musicians.

Home away from home at last!

The view from Casa Vista Grande, our crib.

Well, we are finally settled into our new pad. Today we will go to La Playa Ropa for breakfast, then head to Commercial Mexicana for groceries. After that, we are just going to dodge the afternoon thunderstorms and hit the pool. Paradise :-)

Landed in Mexico!

Sabrina, Lucia and Cody dis-embark our plane

It's about 4:40 pm local (Z! time) and we are on our way to immigration and customs. I took two pictures on the tarmac, but was told by an airport employee to put my camera away until we get through customs.

Aeropurto Ixtapa Zihuatanejo.

In the air!

Port side wing of our 737-800 at we fly over the Sea of Cortez

Finally took off from Sea-Tac at 6:00 am, through some pretty thick clouds out of Seattle. Got to our cruising altitude of 35ooo feet. Smooth ride into LAX. Now, a two hour wait until flight 272 to Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo! We took off from LAX about 10:50 am and headed due south. Here you see the Sea of Cortez, just south of Puerto Penasco. 2 more hours in teh air and we are in Z!

Zihuatanejo Day 1

My friend Peter, Cody, Amy, Sabrina and Lucia.

It is Friday and we are on our way to Mexico! We had to get up this morning around 4:00 am. Not fun, but - considering our destination? We will manage. We stayed at the Marriott in Tukwila and shuttled to Sea-Tac. On our way!

Thursday, June 18, 2009

This is a picture from our Honeymoon in Zihuatanejo. Las Gatas Beach Club. Very cool little resort, no frills. Gilligan's Island-esque! We are still in Bothell with 23 horas and 18 mins left until we touch down in Z! Please follow us along. See you there!

About 24 hours left.......

Sitting at my desk, finishing up some last minute work. Just about 24 hours until we land at Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo International Airport. The weather will be awesome!

Additionally.....

We will be met by my new buddy, Kirk Ingertila in Z' as well. Kirk lives about an hour away from La Casa de Cronin in Bothell. He, his wife Pam and his mom will be arriving in Zihua' on Friday, June 26th. I'm not quite sure Zihua' will ever be the same after our departure :-) But, I can assure you, Kirk and I have become pretty good friends via the Zihuatanejo message board

Thanks Rob Whitehead for your very resourceful message board!

Wednesday, June 17th

Ok, I have officially created this blog. Follow us to paradise as we adventure to Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo Mexico.

Two days and counting........

So here we are, looking at our countdown clocks for our trip to Zihua' while still at work. 2 days, 6 hours and some minutes. Not that we are counting......well, yes - we are counting. Tonight, finish up some packing and have a quick Father's Day meal with Amy's folks...... The suspense builds.

We have been talking about this trip since September of 2008. Now some 270 plus days later it is becoming a reality.
